Everyone is invited to join us after worship on Sunday, August 7th for lunch and dialogue.

All pastors that have moved in Holston Annual Conference are sent a Facilitator to guide our group through the conversation about what works, what doesn’t, who we are, and who we hope to be. Email or call Pastor Casey with any questions.

From the Pastor’s Pen

July 14, 2022

Thank you, Church!
We’ve had two wonderful Sundays together, and my family and I have felt so welcome. We are slowly meeting each of you and hearing your stories– of your life and your faith, of strength, adventure, wisdom, and miracles.
This week, I’ve been learning from you all what we hope God will do soon with us. We hope to connect with one another more frequently as a church family. We hope to bring in new faces and reconnect with people we’ve missed. We hope to reach out to our neighbors around the church facilities. We hope to partner with South Bristol and Addilynn Memorial UMC’s to create opportunities for shared ministry. We hope to study and grow together in faith. We hope for a future. I’m reminded of the passage from Jeremiah, as God’s people feel lost and disconnected in their exile:

“I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the LORD; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. When you call me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. When you search for me, yes, search for me with all your heart, you will find me.”
– Jeremiah 29:11-13

I hope you will commit with me to search for God with all our hearts, and listen for what plans of hope God has for us at First UMC.

Blessings,
Pastor Casey

The Love Beyond Borders campaign aims to raise funds for the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. The initiative has emerged from First United Methodist Church, Boise, ID and seeks to engage The United Methodist Church in supporting COVAX alongside UNICEF, the key vaccine delivery partner.

All funds raised will be sent to UNICEF for this project. More information about Love Beyond Borders is here.

A Note From Our Lay Leader

When I started to write it looked as if we were going to be poured on.  Now the sun is out.  That’s the way our lives seem to go.  I’m hoping to see lots more sun.  Then we can make it through the rain.  Rainbows tell us we can do it.

Your help is needed at First as the sun continues to come out.  Please take a look at “What is God calling you to do? a little way down from this article.  No job is really big, but each job is important!  We have no staff to assist, but we have US.

Come help welcome the new Pastor and her family at a potluck outdoors the last Sunday this month on July 31.  Bring your chairs and a dish to share.  We will supply the drinks.

Hope to see you soon!

UPDATE:  For all who have contributed things for a yard sale (you know who you are) please plan on helping with the setup and selling.  Watch for more information as the date is set and plans are made. We are ready to clear out the church and raise funds for the work of First and our Mission Partners.  Your help is needed.  Even if you didn’t contribute items, we need you too.  You might take one more look around and see if there is anything else you want to clear out of your home.  Do NOT bring those items until the set up days.

Meet the Pastor!

Pastor Casey would like to get to know you and your family. We have sign-ups available– through this Google Form or in-person on Sundays– to meet for coffee, a meal, a visit at your home or at the Pastor’s Office. We hope everyone connected to the church will choose a time and get to know our new Pastor.

Serve with Sunday Worship

What is God calling you to do? What ministries bring you joy?

  • Videographer– It’s easier than it sounds! If you’re not familiar with Facebook Live, Pastor Casey or another leader will have the account open for you– just click “Go Live and rotate the tripod if we need a different camera angle”
  • Administrative TasksChoose one or several areas to serve– proofread the bulletin, check the church voicemail, run DVD and newsletter copies weekly for shut ins, address church mailers

Reply here via email or check with Pastor Casey for more opportunities to use your gifts in God’s Kingdom.

Send Your Pictures, News, and Announcements to Publish in the Newsletter

For each publication, information is needed by noon on Wednesday.
