John 21:1-19
Do You Love Me?
Rev. Brandon Berg
|
|
Listen.
Your mind is occupied with myriad concerns and worries and tasks. Set them aside. Just for a moment, still yourself.
Listen.
Let the sound around you catch your attention.
The hum of the computer fan. The whisper of the air conditioner. The settling of the house in creaks and pops.
Let them catch your attention. Take comfort, then set them aside.
Listen.
The rustling of leaves. The song of birds. The arguing of squirrels. The play of children.
Let them catch your attention. Revel in them, then set them aside.
Listen.
The air through your nose and mouth. The little ringing in your ear. The beating of your heart.
Let them catch your attention. Be thankful, then set them aside.
Listen.
A voice. A word. An image.
Reach out the hand of your heart. Receive it. Grasp it. It is yours. It is a gift.
What is it?
It is unique to you. How does it change you, this divine gift?
Lift up the eyes of your heart to the Giver. Offer your thanks.
Listen.
Open yourself to the creation around you. You are where you need to be. Take your gift and be fully present in that place with it.
Listen.
You and that gift will transform the world.
Peace,
Brandon

Sunday May 26th
is the last drop-off date
for School Kits.
After the kits are collected at the church-level the contents of each are checked for accuracy. Due to Customs regulations strict guidelines are followed.
Next the Kits are delivered to a district drop-off point, which for us is Pleasant View UMC in Abingdon.
Next week we’ll see what happens from there!

Food Drive
On Saturday morning, May 11th, place donated food items in a plastic bag & place beside your mailbox.

Most Needed: canned meat, canned fruit & vegs, juice boxes, cereal.
NO perishables or glass jars please.
The Bristol Emergency Food Pantry will need volunteers Saturday, May 11th and possibly Monday, May 13th to unload food trucks and process
the Letter Carrier food donations.

In Worship Last Sunday
John 20:19-31
The Incredulity of Saint Thomas
|
|
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near; join me in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do, who with his love doth befriend thee.
~Joachim Neander, 1680

Jesus is breathing Spirit on us today
and sending us with a task;
We will forgive, because Christ has forgiven us.
Jesus is opening our eyes today
so we may behold what he has done for us;
We will proclaim your goodness,
because you have revealed yourself to us.
In our troubled and uncertain moments,
Jesus is greeting us in the same way
that he tells us to greet each other;
We will be bringers of peace,
because you have ended fear.

Your Church ‘Meals on Wheels’ Team Needs
Your Help to Continue its Ministry

|
The budget of Meals on Wheels is nearly depleted.
Meals on Wheels is not included in the church budget; rather,
it operates entirely out of contributions made directly into this ministry.
Help us continue to feed members of our community
each month by making a donation to Meals on Wheels today. When you
write your check to the church, put ‘Meals on Wheels’ on the memo line.
